blogs

I have been getting published lately on a few blogs...
One of them is the blog for the Special Topics Communications class project that I mentioned in my last entry; another is the SLU Blog; and the last one is the Press Club blog. All of these blogs are hosted by NOLA.com which is the website for the highly respected Times Picayune, so I'm kind of (actually EXTREMELY) excited about this.

Here are the links to all 3 blogs in case you're intereseted in keeping up with them:
http://blog.nola.com/SELU/ (Southeastern Blog)
http://blog.nola.com/newsouth/ (Building a New South - Comm class blog)
http://blog.nola.com/selu-press-club/ (Press Club blog)

I've also included these blogs as links on the sidebar of my journal for your conveinence ;)

The Press Club blog is still under construction, but me and the President of Press Club are working on it as we speak and entries will be posted soon...

Happy reading!

Comm makes my heart sing!

My Communications class is getting to be really interesting. The skills and experience that I'm getting in this one class will be equal to taking three different classes, really. The other day we got to work in the T.V studio to film an interview for our documentary. It was SO COOL! I tried to contain my excitement to avoid looking like a nerd, but being in there with cameras, and headsets, and hearing things like "quiet on the set," and "lights, camera, action," - just made me want to explode with excitement. I felt so important, LoL.

We'll be posting on that blog regularly to record our progress.

In this class I'll also be getting clips for online media, working on producing a documentary, and we'll also be creating an insert to be inside of a published magazine. Plus lots lots more! So exciting!

reminiscing summer...

Cool weather does crazy things to me!! Even if it is just a tease and the first of many "cold fronts" we will have until the lack of humidity is here to stay. When I woke up Monday morning I was so tired and I wanted to go back to sleep for another five hours or so, but the second I walked outside and felt the coolness...my mood was lifted times 100!!

It still makes me reminiscent of summer, though. I had an absolutely amazing summer, one of the best I've ever had...

Disney World Trip!

Random Nights Out with Old and New Friends:

I had a very event-ful summer and I can already tell its going to be an eventful and possibly stressful semester. But as soon as this nice cool weather is here to stay I think I can handle just about anything...lol

published!

This semester I was invited to take part in a special topics communciations class. We will work a semester long project regarding the Civil Rights Movement, working very closely with university leaders, Tangipahoa government officials, and the NAACP to present a permanant display in the school library. At the end of the semester I will have clips in online, print, and broadcast media to go in my portfolio.

I got published already this week on Nola.com

my latest painting

Finished this tonight. Finally!! I felt like I was working on it forever. But I'm happy with the way it turned out.

Representing the two best parts of New Orleans - The Art District and the Drunk District:

Neither of the pictures came out too good. My house has horrible lighting. It looks much more vibrant in person and you can see the texture better. I did the entire background using knives, so the paint is really thick and texturized in places.

Anyway I'm proud of it :)
On to my next project....

new painting

Finished this today. It didn't come out quite as good as I'd hoped but its my first original. Every thing else that I've painted has been from another painting, but for this one all I looked at was my tattoo :)

artwork

So, Nick's working nights now and tonight while I was waiting for him to get home I did this fun little project:

Its on 4" x 5" canvas with oil paints. I bought like ten of these little canvases last Christmas because I planned on doing different colored fleur de lis for Christmas presents but I never got around to it. I've been taking art again with Ms. Emily on the West Bank and its inspiring me to get back into painting. I love it so much, its so relaxing. Its the only time when my mind is completely blank of random thoughts - all I think about is the paint and the canvas and the brush. Its a great feeling. This is actually the first painting that I have ever done 100% by myself not in a class. ((If only it wasn't such a pain in the ass to clean up after...)) I love these little canvases. I'm going to figure out some more fun projects to use them for...

beautiful New Orleans song

I've been downloading a lot of New Orleans songs - songs about New Orleans, songs made by New Orleans people, and just songs that remind me of New Orleans. I'm going to try to start posting some of my faves.

This one seems appropriate for the weather we have been having recently, not to mention it is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard...

Down here the river meets the sea
And in the sticky heat I feel ya' open up to me
Love comes out of nowhere baby, just like a hurricane
And it feels like rain
And it feels like rain

Lying underneath the stars right next to you
Wondering who you are
And how do you do? (How do you do baby?)
When the clouds rool in across the moon
And the wind howls out your name
and it feels like rain
And it feels like rain

We aint never gonna make that bridge tonight baby
Across lake ponchartrain
and it feels like rain
And it feels like rain

Batten down the hatches baby
leave your heart out on your sleeve
It looks like were in for stormy weather,
that aint no cause for us to leave
Just lay here in my arms
and let it wash away the pain
Feels like rain
And it feels like rain

Baby can you feel it
feel it, feel it,
feel it, feel it
baby can you feel it
can you feel it
gonna let your love rain all over me
feels like rain
